“Ive Lost My Motivation”

Full Transcript

"I've lost my motivation" is something I hear every single day.

From people that apply for our program, sometimes from our members.

"You haven't lost your motivation, you've lost focus on what you're fighting for" - two completely different things.

I get it, when it comes to your diet & getting fit you've tried lots of different ways in the past.

You've found it really easy to get motivated at the beginning, you find yourself wrapped up in a whirlwind of excitement, only to find a few weeks later it's nearly impossible to figure out how to motivate yourself and you're trapped in a deathly spiral of doing nothing and just give up while you wait for another splurge of motivation to strike.

Maybe you're feel drained, overwhelmed and frustrated…
and just a general lack of enthusiasm to do anything.

You have the desire and interest to make a change, but can't get enough inner strength to act upon it.
You've been stuck in this constant cycle of emotions, one day you're up, focused, motivated, inspired to do something, and the next day you're flat, you're unclear of what to do, you're unmotivated.
You know you should really be doing something but you can't conceive any idea of what.

People say
"Jon, I've lost my motivation". But here's the truth.
You didn't lose your motivation, you forgot to show up every morning and look and think and feel what is it you are fighting for, who you're fighting for, why you're fighting for it.
Instead of obsessing over what it is you're fighting for, right here, right now. You're checking you're email, facebook, instagram, all kinds of other social media.
You're filling your brain with insignificant junk and you're allowing distractions to get the better of you.

But, when you start your day grounded in what you find to be meaningful, purposeful, important and fulfilling and you say
"why am I fighting, why am I showing up, why is this necessary"
and you really get emotionally connected to it, then you never have to worry about being motivated.

That's why people lose motivation. They are not emotionally connected to what they're doing.
If you start everyday checking your social media you're focusing on everyone else. The real answer is, "You didn't lose your motivation, you got distracted".

So if you're really connected to what you're doing, why you're doing it or who you're doing it for, then everything changes. You can overcome even the distractions.

I want to give you 3 things that I do every morning that gets me super focused on what I'm fighting for, what matters most to me and if you take these on board and do the same, then I promise you, it will change your outlook and you'll get super focused on what you need to get done.

1. Every morning, the first thing I do is ask myself those questions.
What's important to me? What am I fighting for? Who am I doing this for? Why am I doing it?
I get emotionally connected to what I'm doing, today, here & now.

I've got a little book next to my bed that I open up and write it all down,
but i don't just leave it at that.
I keep asking myself the same questions all day long too, usually about 20 times a day because it keeps me emotionally connected to it.

I'm not like an energiser bunny jumping around full of energy, I have to sit and really think about it, but I get connected every morning with what matters most, what's important to me now, what am I fighting for.

Because you know what, I care about my family and my future, I care about our members, I care about my health, I care about my own self development and I get deeply and emotionally connected first thing in the morning, right off the bat, and that changes everything for me.

2. Once you're fired up and connected emotionally,
ask yourself what 3 things absolutely must happen today?

What 3 things are going to get me closer to what I want?
And do them first, knock them out, focus on those before you do anything. Before you check your phone, before you look on social media. before you browse. Get done what's important for the day. That momentum will fire you up for the rest of the day.

3. I avoid distractions completely, I literally avoid all distractions,
even if I'm going to check my email, email isn't something I check into a 10 times a day. I'm not checking into facebook or Instagram 50 times a day either, that's not what I'm doing.

If I'm going to do social media, there's a time that I've booked in my daily planner, that's when social media gets done.
If I do texts and messages, I've booked that time too, that's when it's going to happen.
Otherwise I'm getting distracted, I'm losing focus.

Instead I'm focusing on everyone else, everyone else's lives, everyone else's opinions and I'm not fulfilling my own.
So stop becoming a consumer of everyone else lives, their problems, their opinions. Focus on you. Move you're life forward.

So whatever you're going to do, whatever you want to achieve.
Get emotionally connected to it every single morning.
Set your 3 tasks and knock them out of the park.
That will bring the fire back in.
"You didn't lose your motivation, you lost focus on what you're fighting for".
